Bristol man embarks on second Syria mercy mission

Sakir at the Syrian border

In September, Bristol man Sakir Yildirm raised money by donation, bought an ambulance, and drove across Europe to deliver it to medical teams in Syria on what he called a “one man mercy mission”. During this trip he saw the desperate living conditions for ordinary people in Syria including their struggle for food.

On 31 May 2010, Israeli armed forces attacked the Mavi Marmara ship and other vessels that were carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip in international waters. Nine humanitarian aid volunteers including journalist Cevdet Kılıçlar were killed during the attack, more than 50 volunteers were wounded, and all the passengers of the flotilla, including the crew of the vessels, had been imprisoned in Israel.

Broad coalition calls on Europe to move decisively beyond rhetoric on settlements 

The European Union imports fifteen times more from Israel’s illegal settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory than from Palestinians themselves, a new report [1] from a coalition of 22 non-governmental organisations including Christian Aid UK and Ireland, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and Diakonia revealed today.
